Red Maeng Da Kratom: Every Size We Stock, Explained

Reviewed by the Jungle Standard team. Educational information only — not medical advice.

Of all the leaf strains on Jungle Standard, red Maeng Da kratom is the one with the deepest bench. Kraken packs it in four pouch weights and three capsule counts, and OPMS Silver and Whole Herbs each offer their own red Maeng Da beside it. That much choice is useful, but only if you know how to read the packages against one another. So rather than retelling the story of the name, this guide spends most of its time on the practical side: what each size actually contains, how red Maeng Da relates to the extracts we sell, and where the paperwork for each package lives.

Two Words, Quickly

“Red” names the vein: leaf with a reddish central rib, typically gathered later in its growth and dried in a way that keeps that deeper tone. “Maeng Da” is a Thai trade expression for premium, hand-selected leaf. It is a grading boast that hardened into a strain name, not a place. Together they describe red-vein leaf a seller is presenting as select. Our vein color guide covers the color system, and the Maeng Da family overview compares red with its green and white siblings.

The Kraken Red Maeng Da Lineup

Here is every Kraken Red Maeng Da package we list, with the quantity printed on each.

Red Maeng Da From Other Makers

Outside the Kraken line, red Maeng Da also comes from OPMS Silver as powder and capsules, and from Whole Herbs as powder and capsules. Each maker sources and dries its own leaf, so read them as separate products that share a name.

Every one of these is leaf. The capsules are simply ground leaf in a pre-filled shell, not an extract capsule, which is a distinction worth holding onto when you browse the rest of the store.

How to Compare Pouches and Bottles

Because powder is sold by weight and capsules by count, the two can look impossible to compare. They are not. Each capsule bottle above states its total leaf weight, so you can line up any package by grams and work out price per gram yourself. Larger pouches usually cost less per ounce; whether a kilo makes sense depends mostly on how quickly you go through a pouch and how well you store it.

What you should not do is treat a capsule count as an instruction. A bottle’s count tells you how the leaf has been divided, nothing more. For serving information, read the package itself; our label-reading guide explains where that sits and how to interpret it. If you are torn between the two formats, the capsules vs. powder comparison lays out the handling differences.

Is There a Red Maeng Da Extract or Shot?

Not one sold under that name here. This is a common question, because Jungle Standard is best known for its extract and ready-to-drink shelf, and Kraken makes both the red Maeng Da leaf and a line of concentrates. But those concentrates are labeled differently. The Kraken bottles on our kratom shots page, the Gold Reserve extract capsules and the chewable tablets are named by product line, and the extract labels state milligrams of MIT. None of them is marketed as a red Maeng Da extract, and we will not describe them as one.

That gives you a clean way to think about kratom extract vs. powder in this store. Red Maeng Da powder is a strain choice: a vein, a name, a weight of leaf. An extract or a kratom seltzer is a format choice: a bottle or can with a labeled MIT figure. If you start from the strain, you land in the leaf aisle. If you start from the format, the strain name drops away.

Red Maeng Da Among the Other Reds

Red Maeng Da shares the red vein category with Red Sumatra and a Bali powder, and it is easy to assume the names form a ranking. They do not. Bali and Sumatra are regional trade names; Maeng Da is a selection boast. All of them sit under the same vein heading because of how the leaf was gathered and dried. If you want the backstory on the regional reds, see our Red Bali and Red Borneo guides. Choose among them by preference and by the label details, not by which name sounds most impressive.

Where the Paperwork Lives

A name like Maeng Da carries no built-in proof, so verification has to come from documents. On each Kraken Red Maeng Da product page we embed the manufacturer reference report we have on file. Reports can cover a different production lot than the package in your hand, so compare the lot code printed on your pouch or bottle with the one on the report. Our lab results page gathers reports in one place, and the COA guide explains what each section means.

  1. Find the lot codeIt is printed on the pouch or bottle you received.
  2. Open the product pageScroll to the manufacturer report embedded in the listing.
  3. Match the twoCheck whether the report covers your lot or a different production run.
  4. Read the columnsUse the COA guide to work through what each section reports.

Once you have a pouch you are happy with, keep it sealed, cool and out of the light. Our storage guide covers the details, which matter more the bigger the bag.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sizes of Red Maeng Da does Jungle Standard carry?

Kraken Red Maeng Da comes in seven packages here: 1 oz, 4 oz, 8 oz and 1 kg powder pouches, plus 60, 120 and 300 count capsule bottles. OPMS Silver and Whole Herbs red Maeng Da are listed too, in powder and capsules.

Why is the 300-count bottle listed as 180 grams?

That is the total weight of leaf across all the capsules in the bottle, as printed on the package. It lets you compare capsules and powder by weight.

Are Red Maeng Da capsules an extract?

No. They contain ground leaf powder in a capsule shell. Extract capsules, such as Kraken Gold Reserve, are a separate product with a labeled MIT amount.

Can I buy Red Maeng Da as a kratom shot?

Not under that name. Our shots and seltzers are labeled by product line and mg MIT rather than by strain.
